Genesee County Arts Education & Cultural Enrichment Millage Renewal

Genesee County is fortunate to have a diverse set of cultural institutions, including world-class museums, music programs, performing arts venues, a planetarium and more, all available for public use and that support our local economy.

The Genesee County Arts Education and Cultural Enrichment Millage Renewal on the Tuesday, Aug. 4, ballot will help preserve these arts and cultural institutions.

This millage renewal supports free field trips for students and free or discounted admission to the Sloan Museum, Flint Institute of Arts and Longway Planetarium, Flint Institute of Music live performances and programs, McCree Theatre, Whiting Auditorium, Capitol Theatre and Berston Field House for all Genesee County residents.

It also provides annual grants to local arts organizations across Genesee County.

This is a renewal of an existing millage and costs the average Genesee County homeowner about $7 per month to keep the county's world-class cultural institutions available to children, schools, families, seniors and the public.

If passed, each institution would be required to have an annual independent audit to show taxpayers how the money is being spent. Funds generated by the renewal are subject to annual independent audits to promote transparency and fiscal responsibility.
